Packaging From Scratch class

On Thursday, June 14 at 17:30 UTC Ubuntu Classroom welcomes Joseph James Mills (bobweaver) for “Packaging From Scratch” as part of the MOTU Packaging Training.

“I will be teaching a Class On How to find fixs on the Ubuntu Forums. And how to make Package (Debian(.deb)) For these fixes. Think about it as a crash course in packaging …

We will be looking a a b43 driver(wireless broadcom) and the awful “missing firmware” Bug. There is a Fix for this. We will be making a package that does all the work for the end users.”

In preparation for the class, he asks that attendees install the latest version of teamviewer here and install the following packages: ubuntu-dev-tools dpkg-dev dh-make

Packaging Training: Head Start into Ubuntu Development

Packaging Training: Tutorial on Debian/Ubuntu Packaging

Have you ever wanted to package an application so that you can easily distribute it to your Ubuntu or Debian friends? On Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 14:00 UTC in #ubuntu-classroom on irc.freenode.net, Bilal Akhtar will teach you all you need to know to do just that. As always, logs will be available following the session.

Shortly after this session, you can then proceed to learn how to get your newly packaged application into the Ubuntu repositories through Debian in Paul Tagliamonte’s Packaging Training Session.

Although he might not be an official Ubuntu Developer, Paul Tagliamonte has plenty of experience working with packages. He has recently gone through the process of getting a new package added to the Ubuntu repositories via Debian, and he is here today to share this knowledge with us. The session will take place on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 00:00:00 UTC in #ubuntu-classroom on irc.freenode.net. Logs will be available following the session.

Packaging Training: Tips and Tricks for New Developers

On October 15, at 01:00 UTC, Nathan Handler will be leading a Packaging Training Session about tips and tricks for people getting into Ubuntu development. The session will take place in #ubuntu-classroom on irc.freenode.net. These tips will mainly be geared towards new developers. The session will be followed by a period for asking questions. In case you are unable to attend, logs will be available after the session.

Packaging Training: UDD intro + Q&A

On September 23, at 0800 UTC, james_w will be taking a class about UDD and taking questions about that process.  The session will take place in #ubuntu-classroom on irc.freenode.net.  We have embraced UDD this cycle and I’m sure it would be a starting point for new contributors and a place to ask questions. However, in case you are unable to attend, logs will be available after the session.

Two, weeks ago, Stefano Rivera gave a great session about some of the sponsoring tools in ubuntu-dev-tools. Now, in a few hours, at 04:00 UTC on September 16, Emmet Hikory will be leading our next Packaging Training Session about Packaging Without Compilation.
